January 20, 2004

Dear Fellow Council Members:

Can you believe it’s 2004, already?!  Since the very successful student conference (many kudos to all of you who helped.  Your thank you notes are in the mail, honest) your committee members have been busy planning for the upcoming leadership training workshop scheduled for Saturday, April 24 in Columbus, IN and the professional development seminar slated for May 2004.  More information will follow in the next newsletter well before the April council meeting.    If you need to contact any committees the chairs are as follows: Education – Rick Sammons, Planning – John Engel, Communications – Nancy Fulks, Students – Ginger White, Hospitality – John Engel, Ad committee on Bylaw revision – Cathy Maness and Leadership Training (CLEW) – Bob Smith.

We have a strong council and due to the strength of our member chapters.  If I or any member of our council board can be of service to any chapter in our council please do not hesitate to ask.  I want to make sure all of our chapters achieve their goals this year.  My goal for our council remains achieving a Council Award of Excellence this year.  We have some great programs in place and National Committee participation that should ensure this award for our council.

Bob Smith, John Engel and Brian McGuire have done an excellent job keeping us informed of all the changes going on in the organization.  I want to encourage each of you to keep one of the missions of our

Thanks also go to Martha Alle and Jan Powers for putting together a great program booklet for our council.  If you have any changes you need to make, please email them to Martha at Martha_Alle@agfinance.com.

I hope to see you all at the council meeting, Saturday, February 7 in Richmond, IN.

Sincerely,

Brenda Engel

Council Meeting Schedule

Our next council meeting is Saturday, February 7 in Richmond, Indiana. Cathy Maness has sent the following directions.

The council meeting is scheduled to be in the Community Room of Whitewater Hall on the Campus of Indiana University East, Richmond, Indiana

Exit off I-70 at US 27 S (exit 151A).  Go South on US 27 approx 1/2 of a mile. At the second stoplight you will see the entrance to the campus on the east side of the highway.  Turn left at the light and follow the road back to the campus.  When the road starts to curve, continue past the first two driveways including going past the circle drive and you will see a large parking lot straight ahead. Whitewater Hall is the large building on your right.

Park in the large lot and go in the main lobby entrance (off long sidewalk).  Turn left and go past the fountain.  Take the first corridor on your left.  The Community Room is at the end of the hall.

IU Police do enforce speed limits and handicap parking rules so please drive and park with caution.  I will post signs in Whitewater Hall to assist.

You may want to contact Cathy or Brenda about your attendance at this meeting.  Either can be contacted through the council e-mail at ltrc@yahoogroups.com.  Cathy can be contacted directly at cmaness@Wernie.org.  Brenda can be contacted directly at Brenda.Engle@viasystems.com.  Also make note that Brenda’s office information has changed.  Her address is now 55656 Currant Road, Mishawaka, IN  46545.  Her phone number is 574-254-4015 ext. 109 and her fax number is 574-257-9509.

ODYSSEY CRUISE CANCELLED

Since 20 people did not commit to the cruise, we were not able to make a group reservation.  In May, John Engel will make reservation for the 12 people who did express an interest in the cruise.   If anyone else is interested, contact John through the yahoo group or at john.h.engel@nd.edu.

QUILT AUCTION

In December, the Louisville chapter auctioned off a lovely handmade quilt.  The proceeds went to the Louisville chapters Scholarship Endowment Fund.  The Fund now exceeds $5,000, and the chapter will be awarding the first $500 scholarship in May.  If you know of any student that is majoring in accounting or a related field that attends U of L, Bellermine, IUS, or any of the other Louisville area colleges, please have them contact the head of the accounting department at that school.  They may also contact me at 502-459-4060 or  wyattima@hotmail.com for more information.

We are approaching the beginning of another chapter year.  If you are interested in becoming a regional director but are unsure of the duties and responsibilities, Bob Smith is developing training for prospective regional directors.  If you did not receive his summary, contact Bob at wrsmith@AAFINTL.com.
